Association Awards Three
$1,000 Scholarships

Three $1,000 scholarships were
awarded at the Washington County Teachers
Association's annual business meeting on May
19.
Timothy Barr,
Smithsburg High School, is the son of WCTA
member Joan Barr and Jeff Barr.
He was awarded the Dot Truax
Award, which was established for students
who are planning a career in education.
Barr will attend Hagerstown
Community College to pursue a degree in secondary
education. His life goal is to be a high school
English or social science teacher.
Katie Brennan,
Boonsboro High School, is the daughter of
WCTA member Elizabeth Brennan and Pastor Robert
Brennan Jr.
Brennan has been accepted at
Gettysburg College and plans to major in premedicine
with a life goal of becoming a physician.
Jacob Shriver
is graduating from Smithsburg High School.
He is the son of WCTA member
Raymond Shriver and Sherry Shriver. Shriver
will attend the University of Maryland, College
Park, where he plans to major in bioengineering.
His goal is to pursue a career
in the medical field or at an engineering
company that designs medical supplies so he
can improve the health and lifestyles of those
who are sick and disabled.
